Registration for Senior Idol Open through April 16

Seniors, start warming up your Jazz hands and vocal chords because the city of Las Vegas’ Senior Idol Showcase is back for its 11th year. Registration is now open for auditions for this popular event to be held June 12 at Charleston Heights Arts Center, 800 Brush St.

The showcase will feature talented individuals and groups age 50 years and older performing a variety of acts including singing, dancing, playing musical instruments and comedy.

Auditions will be held May 7-8 at Las Vegas Senior Center, 451 E. Bonanza Road. All seniors in Las Vegas and surrounding areas are welcome to audition regardless of experience level.

“Past performers have been of all different levels, from amateurs to ex-professionals,” said Lettie Peters, Las Vegas Senior Center coordinator. ‘We have even had former show girls in the showcase.”

Created by a former employee that wanted to experiment with a new activity for seniors and influenced by the hit television show American Idol that debuted the previous year, Senior Idol has grown into one of the most popular events put on by the senior center. Last year, 24 acts took the stage for a sold-out show.

“People look forward to this show every year. It is a wonderful time for all involved,” said Peters.

Contact Las Vegas Senior Center at 702-229-6454 to have a registration form mailed to you, or pick up a form in person. Registration forms and an individual or group photo must be returned to the senior center by 5 p.m., April 16, to receive an invitation to audition.
